I don't get a chance to blog at work although some people do use the computers there for personal stuff. most of my blogging is spent just reading others.

Papa, you've spoken well to us being an example in integrity as Christians.

Jenni, great suggestions for guidelines. I too will comment or respond during the work day, but I very seldom post from work if at all. Generally that happens after hours as well. I think you've brought up something interesting for those in ministry. Their blogs may both be personal bur also ministry oriented. It can get fuzzy.

Christian, the hate(love) is mutual :) You gotta admit, the graphics were cool :)

And you know what else? As slow as it is on the weekends Brent can cobble together a few casual lines, toss in a graphic or two and before you know it - Voila!- he has a rinky-dinky little post that STILL gets 20 comments in one afternoon.

I had to set some boundaries for myself AND because I needed to set an example for my staff since most of them blog. We would never get any work done!

My personal rules are:
1) No posting at work (unless I'm there after hours or unless the post is specifically vision casting or updates about Cross Point)
2) I respond to comments/approve comments at work as needed
3) I have a few ministry related blogs that I'll read during work because they are work related

The lines can get a little fuzzy but this helps some.

Can Papa take a bold position here? One of my career moves was sliding into a temporary position for a mid-level management position. The employee I replaced was on a temporary assignment for 90 days - a loaned out executive. Immediately I discovered his computer inbox was filled up with scripture / biblical information, and unanswered business stuff. His long distance log, at company expense, was mostly personal. An investigation began and when he returned he was terminated from that position. Please - be fair and honest with your employer and set the example of a hard working Christian!!

B: i stopped blogging at work when i started my new job. i think it's a character issue for me, among other things. but i DO lurk there when i need a quick mental break. unfortunately, my prime blogging time is on the weekends, but all y'all are off enjoying your lives then.

with no one to play with.

Bad, I hear you. I live on my computer, but mostly for work stuff, so I still spend time on it at home, so that I can do stuff like this :)

Brad, Fire yourself, rehire yourself, stage a hostile take over...then blog about it :)

Amanda, Sounds good. And, I would be one to organize the church music library as well. Drives me nuts when I can't find something at church.

Weekends are definitely slow in the blog sphere.

At one of my jobs, I don't have computer access, & at the other, I don't have set hours, just things to get done (& other responsibilities I've added that aren't musts required by anyone but me--like trying to get the music library at the church organized!) So, yes, if I have something in my mind to blog & I'm there, I'll blog or read blogs, but I usually have things to get done first. :)

I work on the computer, so that's when I do most of my blogging. After 8-10 hrs online, I try to stay away from the computer after work.

Lets see... I am an Regional IT Manager of Support, I live on computers at work and at home plus have my blackberry. I can blog from pretty much any where any time.

It breaks down like this...

Do I or have I from work yes. I do not post to my blog from work, I do that at night after the wife and kids are in bed. At work I will read a blog or write a comment or two, but most of the time that is early since I get into work and Hour before anyone else, or while I eat my lunch at my desk.

But, even before this post by Brent, I had decided to cut time reading and commenting on blogs to early in the morning and at lunch while at work. I enjoy blogging and writing, but need to keep everything in perspective, and now that I am blogging more I need to make sure I am honoring my time correctly.

CJ, I know of people that have been fired for using their computers for non-work stuff. There really does have to be some integrity in what you do.

Randy, I am similar, I live there, so it's easy to stay tied in. Saturday's are generally my worst day as well...except for today...Haha!

Scott, I love working from my iPhone. It's so easy to Tweet and blog.

Papa, it came through great. So you don't know what that "work" thing is huh? Haha! Maybe we will have to show you :)

Kim, I am probably similar in that I read a ton of stuff during the day that has to do with my job. I have found so many amazing resources for info and education for what I do. Guilt? I am sure you balance well. Ive read your ramblings and I know you have you priorities straight.

D, I agree with the balance thing. It does need to focus on the what and where, but most definitely the how much. that is a great principle in life.

You are a wise woman. Sometimes the term 'guilt' is used to degrade justifiable 'conviction', so don't dismiss it as that. It's needed, and you are doing well to listen to it, I think =).

There's a Holy Spirit 'priority balance' for everything ("whatever you do, do all for the glory of God" -1 Cor. 10:31) and that includes not just 'what' and 'where', but also 'how much' I believe!

I usually don't blog at work, that is to say, during the time when I should be working. I don't think it's right to do that, plus I already don't have enough work time to get my work done. I do occasionally read blogs at work when I think someone has written something that relates to my job. I have been known to blog from my office after I've finished work for the day. I usually blog from home. And I feel just as guilty doing that, as home time = time with the kids or time with the husband, and shouldn't be spent face down on the keyboard. Thus, I am not the most frequent post-er.

So the whole blogging thing is a giant web of guilt traps for me, if you want to know the truth. Thanks for reminding me. :)

I generally write a post every morning, and sometimes that happens when I get to work. My entire day is spent online though, no way to avoid it... However, I used to NEVER blog on the weekends, because I didnt want to be on a computer at all, but now those lines are getting less obvious.

Oh, and we musnt forget about Moblogging, which is PHAT! I dig posting from the ol iPhone, as things are happening... dont even get me started about deader, I mean twitter.

I do NOT blog at work - I have an ethical issue with surfing the web on company time - almost as if it is borderline employee theft...I know, a possible weird stance. I'm sure that does not apply to all people, but in my line of work, I don't feel comfortable doing it.

I have noticed that weekends are slower in stat land, which is why I have "Lazy Sundays" - similar to Brody's "Stacks Suck Sunday" - which I do participate in.
